UNAERP RESEARCHERS PARTICIPATE IN THE FOCUS ON CORE ACADEMIC SKILLS COURSE

UNAERP, through the Division of National and International Cooperation (DCINI), last week promoted the course "Focus on core academic skills", a workshop on the development of skills in scientific communication in English for professors and graduate students. The course is part of the Researcher Connect 2016 program, offered by the Newton Fund Professional Development & Engagement Program, co-funded by São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and supported by the British Council.

Researcher Connect is comprised of interactive modules and focuses on developing communication skills for use in international and multicultural scientific contexts. "The purpose of the course is to make professors who wish to leave the country for international events, publish scientific articles, or create a connection with a foreign professor, to develop skills in terms of communicating scientifically in English," says Researcher Connect instructor, Flávia Rodrigues.

Professors and postgraduates of UNAERP who participated in the course underwent a rigorous selection process, carried out according to the criteria of the body that promoted the workshop. UNAERP medicine professor, Ana Karina Bartmann, was one of the selected ones and saw the course as an excellent opportunity for the researchers of the Institution. "It's a great opportunity for us, and I hope publications can happen more easily because in order to be recognized, they need to be in English, and for that we need to know technical terms and how to communicate in another language. This course is providing this for us. "

The coordinator of the Division of Biotechnology and adviser of UNAERP Division of International Cooperation, Professor Suzelei de Castro França, was the one who took the initiative to bring the course to the University. "It was an honor to be selected for this edition of the course. It is an excellent opportunity for researchers to become increasingly involved in the process of expanding the internationalization of the University departments. A total of 25 researchers were able to participate and develop their skills to disseminate new knowledge and to design their research on a global scale, with insertion in the international academic scenario”, she says.
For the DCINI coordinator, Vanessa Bonini Panico, the course complements the internationalization dynamics of teaching and research activities carried out at the University. "The course will further empower our professors and researchers to make them feel even more confident to teach in English, receive foreign students here at the University and also have the opportunity to interact with visiting professors we receive from the cooperative institutions and even to go to these institutions.” Focus on core academic skills was held from October 28th to 30th.
