Journalism student is finalist in international competition

Unaerp Journalism student, Brenda Marchiori, is the only Brazilian finalist in the University Journalism category, in the 2022 edition of the Journalistic Excellence Contest, organized by the Inter American Press Association (SIP). Media professionals from North America, Latin America and the Caribbean participate in the awards.

Competing with more than a thousand entries in each of the 14 categories of the contest, Brenda was classified with the report “Scientific Production at USP is marked by gender inequality, study points out”, published at USP Jornal in December 2021. The article speaks of a survey by the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (FMRP) at USP, which shows that the percentage of hiring and the difference in the impact of scientific production between genders have remained unequal in the last 30 years.

Happy to be among the finalists, the student says that the excellent result in a contest like this can open many doors, professionally, in the future. “The finalist reports bring up very important themes and that's what makes me the happiest. Having my report among them shows that I am capable of dealing with relevant topics and taking this to the population”, she concludes.

For the coordinator of the Journalism course, Professor Geraldo José Santiago, it is an honor to have a student from Unaerp among the finalists of a contest that has the participation of students from different countries. “It is the result of work that involves a whole team of professors and professionals from the University, in addition to a very important partnership with the Journalism team at USP in Ribeirão Preto. Brenda is an excellent student and I am sure this is the first of many recognitions. I wish her much success on this journey.”
