Professor from Unaerp Guarujá Campus participates in the International Forum on the Atlantic Ocean

Post-doctoral professor Luciane Maranho, from Unaerp Guarujá, participated as a facilitator of the scientific event Fórum All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance 2022, an international online meeting organized in early June by the United States and Brazil, in collaboration with the European Commission. Bringing together hundreds of ocean scientists, the online activity promoted information sharing for collaborations and co-creations of innovative solutions to overcome current challenges and encourage research across the Atlantic.

The Scientific Event, held from May 31 to June 2, brought together researchers from various nationalities via the internet. The coordinator of the Morphofunctional Laboratory of the Medicine program at Unaerp Guarujá and a member of the Society of Toxicology and Environmental Chemistry, post-doctoral researcher Luciane Alves Maranho, facilitated two discussion sessions - in the Pollution session, on confronting the impacts of marine pollution, and in the Data Session, referring to the applicability of data systems.

The objective was to promote reflections among researchers, managers, industry and academics on initiatives involving the Atlantic for possible actions to be considered by managers and public policy makers.

“Based on discussions with different social actors, it was possible to establish the common interests and needs of the countries bordering the Atlantic, in order to strengthen and unify sustainability. The results obtained were surprising, and will be directed to decision makers from different countries”, emphasizes the professor.

These results will be taken to the continuity of the Forum, the Ministerial Event, which will take place in July this year, in Washington, United States, where the findings gathered by ocean scientists at the scientific workshop will be presented. On the occasion, the Atlantic partners will sign the new declaration of the Alliance for Ocean Research and Innovation “ALL-ATLANTIC DECLARATION”. The event is co-organized by Brazil and the United States of America, in collaboration with the Commission and All-Atlantic partners, and organized by NOAA (USA), MCTI, CNPq and CONFAP (Brazil).
