Postgraduate Law Professor Selected to Teach at University of Sydney

Professor Edilson Vitorelli Diniz Lima, from the Postgraduate Program in Law at Unaerp, has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at the University of Sydney in Australia. The professor has expertise in environmental disasters due to his extensive experience as one of the coordinators of investigations into the environmental tragedies of Mariana and Brumadinho, both in Minas Gerais.

Lima explains that he has been researching this topic for years, starting from his work at the Federal Public Ministry (MPF). “The response to major environmental disasters is very challenging because it involves repairing both individuals and communities, as well as the environment.”

He also highlights that forming the faculty at the Australian university “further strengthens the relationships between universities, potentially leading to sending more researchers and also welcoming Australians here,” he emphasizes.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND – Graduated in Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Edilson Vitorelli Diniz Lima serves as an Adjunct Professor of Civil Procedural Law at UFMG; in undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs at Mackenzie Presbyterian University; and in the Postgraduate Program in Law at Unaerp.

He is the only Brazilian author to win the Mauro Cappelletti Award, given every four years by the International Association of Procedural Law for the best book on procedural law worldwide. Finally, the professor and researcher holds the position of Federal Judge at the Regional Federal Court of the 6th Region (TRF-6).
